it's pretty easy to redeem an iTunes gift card. All you have to do is open the iTunes, iBooks or Apple store apps and hit Redeem. You can also open iTunes on your computer and redeem your gift card.
My family loves giving me iTunes cards for Christmas, so I've redeemed my fair share of them. Discussed below is how you can do it too.
How to Redeem iTunes Gift Card?
There are two ways to redeem it. One is through your smartphone and the other is through your computer. Redeeming through your phone would be the easier of the two.
Here's how to redeem through an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch:
- Open the Apple App store, iTunes store or iBooks shop on your device
- Scroll down until you see your Apple ID along with a Redeem button
- Click on the Redeem button
- You'll be asked to sign into your Apple ID account
- You will have 2 options to redeem your iTunes card. You can either use your camera to scan it or enter your gift card code directly into your device (choose the Enter Code Manually option if you want to type it in)
- Tap Redeem once you're done
- Your Apple ID balance will reset and you will be able to make purchases afterwards
Here's how to redeem through an Android phone:
Before we get started, know that on Androids, you'll only be able to use your iTunes gift card for an Apple Music subscription.
- Download and open the Apple Music app
- Scroll down and click Library, For You, Discover or Radio
- Click on the Menu bar
- Choose Account Settings
- You might have to log into your Apple ID account
- Click on the Redeem iTunes gift cards option
- Enter the gift code and then click Redeem
- You will see a pop up. It will ask whether you want to buy a monthly subscription. Credit will be added to your account and would be deducted every month for your Apple music subscription if you click yes
Here's how to redeem through your desktop:
- Open iTunes on your PC or Mac computer (it should be the latest version or there might be errors)
- Click iTunes store on the left hand corner
- Enter your Apple ID password to sign into your Apple account
- On the right hand corner, you will see a Music Quick Links option. Click on it
- You will see a menu with several options. Click on Redeem
- Enter your iTunes gift card code
- Click Redeem again to confirm
- The credit on your Apple account will be reset
What Can I Buy with My iTunes Gift Card?
You can use it to buy e-books, paid apps, songs and Apple music subscriptions. As discussed, you'll be able to redeem your iTunes card through the iTunes store, Apple App store, as well as the Mac App and Apple Book stores.
To use your credit, you'll have to be logged into the same Apple ID account that you used to redeem your code with.
Many people wonder whether they can use the gift cards to purchase Apple products, but this won't be possible. You will need a special Apple Store gift card for this. Also, you won't be able to redeem your gift cards for cash either. If you're strapped for cash, you can, of course, sell your iTunes card.
How Do You Add iTunes Gift Cards to Your Apple Wallet?
This would be useful, as you can open and check your remaining balance whenever you want.
How to add your gift card to your Apple wallet:
- Open the Apple App store on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch
- Scroll down until the end
- Choose Redeem
- Select iTunes pass
- Choose Get Started
- Tap Add iTunes Pass to Wallet
- Your Gift card should then pop up
- Select Add on the upper right corner of the screen
Will I Know Who Redeemed an iTunes Gift Card?
You won't be able to find out who used the card even if you contact Apple. And no, it won't be possible to check when it was redeemed either.
How Do You Fix iTunes Gift Card Not Working?
If your gift card is not working, someone else may have redeemed it. Alternatively, the gift card might be old, so it's not valid anymore.

If, for some reason, a glitch is causing the problem, you might be able to clear it by force-restarting your device.
How to force-restart an iPhone, iPad and iPod touch depends on your device model:
Here's what to do on iPhones with Face ID:
- Quickly hold and let go of the Volume Up button
- Quickly hold and let go of the Volume Down button
- Keep holding the Power button until the Apple logo screen appears
iPhone 8 and SE (2nd generation):
- Quickly hold and let go of the Volume Up button
- Quickly hold and let go of the Volume Down button
- Keep holding the Power button until the Apple logo screen appears
iPhone 7:
- Hold both the Volume Down and Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time
- Let go when you see the Apple logo screen
iPhone 6S and SE (first generation):
- Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons
- Release them when the Apple logo pops up
iPod Touch (7th generation):
- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time
- Release the two when you see the Apple logo screen
iPads with Home button:
- Press and hold the Top and Home buttons at the same time
- Release the two when you see the Apple logo
iPads without Home button:
- Press and let go of the Volume Up button
- Press and let go of the Volume Down button
- Keep holding the Top button until the Apple logo screen appears
To force-restart an Android, you simply have to keep pressing the Power button for around 20 seconds.
Also, if you're using your camera to scan your iTunes code, you might face problems if your gift card is from another country.

It's not difficult to redeem your Apple gift card. You can either do it on an iOS device, Android phone, or even your Windows or Mac computer.
You can use the credit from the card to do various things. However, you won't be able to use it to buy Apple products. This is a misconception that many users have.
